Sustainability in oral healthcare
Fdi Session (On Demand)
Session Description
Sustainability in oral healthcare
In this session prominent experts will introduce the environmental impact of dentistry as well as approaches to address it. The strategic action framework that laid the foundation for the recently published FDI Consensus on 'Environmentally Sustainable Oral Healthcare: A Joint Stakeholder Statement' will be presented, with actions proposed for multi-stakeholder engagement at all levels of the supply chain, including the provision of oral health care and recycling capabilities. This action framework highlights the ability of the dental profession to have a significant impact on the environment by striving to deliver optimal oral health through disease prevention, delivery of good quality care and patient engagement as co-creators of their own care, with sustainability as an additional benefit.
This session will review the mitigated impact on the environment from all aspects of oral healthcare with appropriate and efficient use of resources, considering the relevance across diverse regional socio-economic health settings and highlighting the need to increase awareness and engagement with environmentally sustainable practices via integration in the undergraduate curricula.
