A Clinical Professor in Restorative Dentistry at the University of Sheffield, UK, Professor Nicolas Martin leads the “Sustainability in Dentistry” research programme based at the School of Clinical Dentistry, University of Sheffield, UK. This research programme is delivered through a series of highly collaborative and inter-disciplinary projects with three strategic themes: Knowledge transfer and education with the promotion of sustainable practice through preventive, high-quality care and efficient care pathways; (ii) Impact mitigation through life cycle analysis, reduction and recycling of SUPs and plastic packaging waste and; (iii) management of waste dental amalgam in municipal effluent water systems. Prof. Martin leads on the University of Sheffield’s collaboration with the World Health Organisation (WHO) and World Dental Federation (FDI) on sustainable dentistry.
