Learning Objectives
- This lecture will review and present the latest guidelines in treating Dental trauma. A traumatic Dental injury results in acute transmission of energy to the teeth and surrounding structures.
- For many years it was thought that all Dental injuries should be treated on an emergency basis. For practical and economic reasons a new approach is necessary.
- The clinician must assess whether the injury and treatment is classified as acute, sub-acute or delayed.
- Inappropriate initial treatment will increase the chances of complications, lessen the chance of teeth remaining vital while reducing unnecessary pain, distress and cost.
