- Provision of custom built mouthguards to prevent traumatic Dental injuries is strongly supported by the Australian and American Dental associations.
- The pattern of Dental injuries depends on 3 factors. The energy of impact, the direction and the location of impact and the resilience of the periodontal structures.
- Modern mouthguard designs using scanning technology for model preparation will be discussed. New mouthguard designs using different material with different thicknesses and Shore hardness may allow incorporation of air spaces to minimise transfer of energy.
- The lecture will end with a video demonstrating issuing and checking a custom built mouthguard.
