Working as a specialist in paediatric dentistry since receiving his qualification in early 1981, Dr Richard Widmer was initially employed at the newly opened Westmead Centre for Oral Health in Sydney until the year 2000 after which he moved to the neighbouring Children’s Hospital at Westmead, which he has remained since. An active clinician and lecturer, in all health sciences as well as presenting at conferences, both locally and internationally, Dr Widmer is a Past President of the IAPD (International Association of Paediatric Dentistry), the AAPD and the ANZSPD, and in 2008 received The Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons’ Meritorious Service Award for his contributions to Paediatric Dentistry. He has co-edited both the very popular Handbook of Paediatric Dentistry now in its fifth edition in five languages and the booklet Paediatric Dentistry, Dental Care for Children. A Guide for Parents.
