As Associate Professor of Orthodontic Biomechanics and Craniofacial Anomalies at Universidad Autónoma de Manizales (UAM) and member of INSAO Research Group, A/Prof. Gómez is involved in the use of Finite Element Analysis and laboratory experimentation with polymers to improve comprehension of biomechanics of aligner-based tooth movement.  Additionally, he is co-founder and past president of “Fundación Sonríe”, a non-profit organization, dedicated to the education, multidisciplinary treatment and support of cleft patients and their families, since 1997.  Since 2005 they have partnered with Smile Train to helped improve the lives of many children with clefts in the central mountainous region of Colombia. A/Prof. Gómez is currently member of Smile Train’s Research and Innovation Advisory Council and South America Medical Advisory Council.
