A senior lecturer at the UWA Dental School, Dr. Jilen Patel is a specialist paediatric dentist and consultant at Perth Children’s Hospital. Dr. Patel received both the Royal Australasian College emerging lecturer award and the ADA/Pierre Fauchard Academy’s lecturer award for his research and discussion on the paradigm shifts in modern cariology, and he recently received the GC minimal intervention award for research on the remineralisation potential of topical fluorides. He is currently exploring the efficacy of novel non-fluoridated modalities such as bioglass and self-assembling peptides, in addition to leading an Australian-first clinical trial investigating the use of Silver Diamine Fluoride in caries management. Dr. Patel is the current chair and has been a proud member of the Kimberley Dental Team for over a decade working to improve oral health outcomes in remote Aboriginal communities.
