A past Board Member/Conference Chair of the Australasian Sleep Association, Dr Andrew Gikas is a dentist who has a teaching role at The University of Melbourne. He has served on various committees within the ADA including Victorian Branch President, ADA Federal Councillor and Federal Executive. Dr Gikas currently Chairs the ASA’s Dental Sleep Medicine Fellowship Committee, which was established to certify and recognise dentists who have achieved minimum clinical competencies in DSM and provides recognition to medical colleagues and patients as to who is qualified. As well as private practice, Andrew is engaged in public practice as the DSM Clinic Lead at the Alfred Hospital. This clinic also recruits patients for several ongoing research projects. and he is currently an Associate Investigator in two active projects looking at Mandibular Advancement Devices in combination with oxygen therapy and Mandibular Advancement Devices and their effect on genioglossus muscle activity.
