Scientific Programme (On Demand)
Session Description
A novel diagnostic index for dental trauma
Accurate recording of dental trauma cases is important in treatment planning and prognosis. A simple and easily recordable index that contains sufficient information on affected tissues
which is suitable for computer registration is advantageous. 'Eden Baysal Dental Trauma Index' is the first index developed for recording traumatic dental injuries. It uses 5 digits to define the injury of the tooth. It contains information about the type of injury related to the affected structures (enamel, dentin, cement, pulp, periodontal ligament) according to Andreasen's classification and maturity of the apex as well as the accompanying bone fracture are recorded.
The affected tooth is indicated using the FDI code in parentheses. The first and second digits contain numbers, the third digit contains uppercase letters, the fourth digit includes lower case letters, and the last digit contains a plus or minus sign. Extension of the index entitled “Modified Eden Baysal Dental Trauma Index “records extraoral and intraoral soft tissue injuries using superscript numbers.
The face and content validation of the index was evaluated by 25 international experts. The computer registration with the index
