Session Description

Auto-transplantation and decoronation - do they belong in the past?
Periodontology in recent years, is looked sometime as crown lengthenings and tissue graftings solely. However, periodontology can, and should, offer much more than these services to our patients and to the referring dental practitioners. Periodontal support can offer better general health by promoting oral health; proper periodontal management can increase the success of many other procedures performed in a dental practice; periodontal treatment can include many creative solutions to complex cases such as auto-transplantation of teeth, growth of bone and tissues as well as advanced pre-rehabilitation treatment modalities. In cases of dental trauma, auto-transplantation & decoronation procedures, are perceived, by many clinicians, as outdated treatments with no valid indication even though the evidence is there to support these procedures. This lecture will dive into some less common and less highlighted features that can help us preserve soft and hard tissues in post-traumatic situations in children and adult patient.

Learning Objectives
  • Understanding the less common management and treatment options for tissue preservation.
  • Discussing practical ways for prevention of soft and hard tissue loss.
  • Discussing creative treatment modalities like auto-transplantation of teeth and decoronation procedures following dental trauma.
